I Strained A What?

Saw the doctor this afternoon. I've been reluctant to see a doctor - I mean, it's just a sprained ankle, right? Well, after having no less than 6 people ask me "have you seen a doctor, yet?" I acquiesced. Most notably because because the ankle is still super swollen (it's at least twice the size of my left ankle and it's swollen in weird places) and my foot/ankle is all kinds of shades of blue and green. So the doctor looked at it, poked it, looked at it some more and poked it some more. Had a few x-rays taken. Turns out I strained a tendon. The remedy: doing the exact same thing I've been doing for the past 5 days: ice, elevation, rest. And ibuprofen. The swelling's suppose to go down in 2 weeks and be completely gone in a month.

Thing #1 I learned today: wrapping an ankle in an ACE bandage does absolutely nothing. According to the doctor the ACE bandage does nothing to help the ankle heal.

Thing #2 I learned today: it can take up to a month for swelling to go down. A MONTH! Crazy.

Kathryn, you might know you'd get a response from me! To minimize the swelling, QUIT WALKING ON THE FOOT! Use a crutch. Did you have to continue the Jorns/Groble clutzieness? Bill slipped on black ice Tues 3/6 and dislocated his left elbow; had surgery last night to remove bone fragments; will be in a cast 3 wks then intensive therapy to get the arm moving again. Wally returns to work Mon; due to the odd angle his right foot is when driving his company car (car is not big enough for tall people like Walt), he's had damage to tendons and muscles requiring therapy and his doc is going to suggest the company either give him a bigger car or a different job. Should be interesting! I won't comment on your shoes - when I was in high school, I bought a pair of black heels with a half-inch platform and couldn't understand why I walked so funny. I wore then on graduation day. And I'm so glad you enjoyed the snow in Indpls! I thought about you while we had our wonderful winter fling and laughed. :-)
